Presenting at Ignite Liverpool in May? Then this post holds important information just for you….. such as Deadlines, Timing and mastering Powerpoint.
We’re a bit late preparing for Ignite in May and I can only blame the Easter holidays causing me to think this event was ages away but we are back on the ball and would like to say a big thank you for joining Ignite Club by agreeing to speak at our next event on 8th May 2014.
We hope you are as excited about it as we are, we have had some brilliant talks over the years and we really want yours to be brilliant too.
Powerpoint
Yes, we really did say Powerpoint, it acts as a leveller! So not matter how good a speaker you may be, the template really makes you hone your skills. This is a link to download Powerpoint presentation template (right click and save as) which we do insist on presenters using. The document is a template, it has four sample slides and you can choose which slide you would care to use as the background to your presentation.
NB: No Video is allowed and please no pitching for work.
Timing
They say that the secret of great British comedy is …….. Timing, well it is also true of a great Ignite Talk.
Remember presentations are 5 minutes long and consist of 20 slides set to change every 15 Seconds. So the best talks are the ones where there is an image on the screen and you talk over it.
Don’t go for lots of text as there won’t be the time to read it.
We normally set the timings on the Powerpoint slides once you have submitted your presentation a week before the event but do feel free to do it yourself if you know how.
Deadline
We do require that you get your presentation to us a week before the event. This is so we can check the content for any overt advertising plus we will need to set up the timings correctly on your presentation. Long gone are the days of someone manually moving your presentation forward with a stop watch in hand (see early ignite videos).
So we will require your finished presentation at on the 6th May, this is just after the bank holiday so that gives you an extra day to prepare.
For background material please check out this website where you will find a great selection of videos from previous Ignite Liverpool sessions, these will give you a guide as to the best way to deliver your presentation.
